How To Status Match American Airlines To Virgin Flying Club
/American Airlines AAdvantage members with elite status can match to Virgin Flying Club. Executive Platinum members can match to Virgin Gold and Platinum Pro members can match to Virgin Silver. In this ultimate guide, I’ll break down the status matching process, along with the benefits of top-tier status with Virgin.

Status Matching American Airlines AAdvantage To Virgin Flying Club
Unlike most other airline status matches, if you’re matching to Virgin Flying Club, you need to have an upcoming ‘revenue’ flight booked with Virgin Atlantic (a paid-for, non-rewards flight). You also need to hold either American Airlines Executive Platinum or Platinum Pro status. Executive Platinum members can match to Virgin Gold and Platinum Pro members can match to Virgin Silver.
The Virgin Atlantic booking also needs to meet a minimum cabin class requirement if you’re planning on matching to Virgin Gold:
Match To Virgin Silver - Need To Have Upcoming Virgin Atlantic Booking In Any Cabin Class)
Match To Virgin Gold - Need To Have Upcoming Virgin Atlantic Booking In Premium Economy or Upper Class
Whether you match to Virgin Silver or Virgin Gold, your status will expire 12 months after the date of match. After the 12 months are up, your new Virgin status will be based on Virgin Tier Points earned in that 12 month period.
Virgin do have the right to revoke a status match. It’s likely that this stipulation has been added so you can’t book a Virgin flight, match your status and then cancel the flight.
How To Complete The Status Match
First, sign up to Virgin Flying Club if you haven’t already. Then, login and write down your Virgin Flying Club number. Once you’ve done that, head to ‘My Flights’ and take a screenshot of your Virgin Atlantic booking, making sure the reference number is visible.
Next, login to American Airlines AAdvantage and take a screenshot of your Platinum Pro or Executive Platinum status. Make sure your name is visible in the screenshot. You’ll need this to complete the match.
Once you’ve got all of the above, go to the Virgin Status Match Page and scroll down to the online form that needs completed and sent.
Fill in the ‘About You’ section then, in the first dropdown menu under ‘Other Airline Loyalty Programme’ select ‘American Airlines - AAdvantage’. Select ‘Platinum Pro’ or ‘Executive Platinum’ from the next dropdown menu, attach the 2 screenshots (Virgin Booking and American Airlines Status) and press ‘Send’.
Once sent, it can take up to 30 days to get confirmation of your American Airlines-Virgin status match. As soon as your match is confirmed, you’ll have 12 months to enjoy your new Virgin Silver or Gold status.
