How To Status Match Qantas To Virgin Flying Club

Qantas Frequent Flyer members can status match to Virgin Flying Club. Qantas Platinum or Platinum One members can match to top-tier Virgin Gold status. Qantas Gold members can status match to Virgin Silver, Virgin’s middle tier. In this ultimate guide, I’ll detail the status matching process, along with the benefits of elite status with Virgin.

Status Matching Qantas Frequent Flyer To Virgin Flying Club

In order to status match from Qantas to Virgin, you need to have an upcoming ‘revenue’ flight booked with Virgin. A revenue flight being a paid-for, non rewards flight. You also need to hold either Qantas Gold, Platinum or Platinum One Status. The latter two match to Virgin Gold, the former matches to Virgin Silver.

If you’re matching to Virgin Gold status, the booking also needs to meet a minimum cabin class requirement:

  • Matching To Virgin Silver - Need Upcoming Virgin Atlantic Booking (Any Cabin Class)

  • Matching To Virgin Gold - Need Upcoming Virgin Atlantic Booking (Premium Economy or Upper Class)

Whether you match to Virgin Silver or Gold, your new status will expire 12 months after the match is complete. After those 12 months, you’ll move to whatever Virgin tier you should be on based on Virgin Tier Points earned in the previous 12 months.

Bear in mind that Virgin can revoke any matched status too. It’s likely they added this T&C in so that you can’t book a revenue flight, status match and then cancel the flight.

How To Complete The Status Match

First of all, you need to join Virgin Flying Club if you’re not already a member. Login and note down your Virgin Flying Club number. Then, go to ‘My Flights’ and screenshot your upcoming Virgin booking (making sure the booking reference number is visible).

Once you’ve got those, login to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account and screenshot your Qantas Gold, Platinum or Platinum One status. You’ll need this screenshot as evidence to process the status match.

Now that you have your Virgin Flying Club Number, plus evidence of your upcoming Virgin flight and Qantas status, head to the Virgin Status Match Page. Once there, scroll down until you see the online form that needs completed.

Add your details, then select ‘Qantas - Frequent Flyer’ from the ‘Other Airline Loyalty Programme’ dropdown menu. Then select either ‘Gold’, ‘Platinum’ or ‘Platinum One’ from the ‘Tier At Other Airline Programme’ dropdown menu.

Attach the required evidence (Virgin Booking + Qantas Status screenshots) and hit ‘Send’.

Virgin may take up to 30 days to respond to your request, however it’s likely you’ll be matched within a few days. Once matched, your Virgin Silver or Gold status will expire 12 months from the date of match.
