Here, I’ll break down the details of the Lufthansa-Delta status match and explain all the benefits you’ll get access to with Delta Platinum status.

Status Matching Lufthansa To Delta SkyMiles

To be eligible for the Lufthansa-Delta status match, you must have earned your Lufthansa Miles & More status the usual way instead of through a credit card promo or similar. You’re also excluded from the status match promo if you've been given free Delta SkyMiles status in the last 3 years (unless you received status thanks to a Delta Million Miler achievement).

Now that you’ve determined if you’re eligible for the match, I’ll explain how the match works. Delta offer an immediate match of 3 months with the possibility of extending your match via a status match challenge. How does the challenge work? Delta will extend your status match past 3 months if you meet these requirements:

• To Extended SkyMiles Platinum Medallion - 18,750 MQMs OR 25 MQSs (AND $2,250 MQDs* - US Members Only)

MQMs are Medallion Qualification Miles, MQSs are Medallion Qualifying Segments and MQDs are Medallion Qualification Dollars. You can earn all 3 on Delta, Delta Connection and Delta Partner-operated flights.

If you fail to meet the Platinum Medallion status match challenge requirements, you can still extend into Gold Medallion (one tier down) if you reach 12,500 MQMs OR 15 MQSs (AND $1,500 MQDs* - US Members Only).

*The MQD requirement is waived if you spend $25K on a qualifying Delta American Express Card in the calendar year that you’ve matched. If your 3 month challenge window crosses into the next calendar year, you’ll have to meet the $25K spend in year 1 or year 2, before the 3 month window ends.

How To Complete The Status Match

First, sign up to Delta SkyMiles if you aren’t already a member. Then, login and note down your Delta SkyMiles number. You’ll need this to complete the match.

Next, login to your Lufthansa Miles & More account and screenshot your Miles & More Senator or HON Circle status. Make sure your name is visible. Then, go to ‘Your Miles & More Account Statement’ and screenshot your recent Lufthansa activity (enough to prove that you earned your Lufthansa status the usual way rather than through a credit card or similar promotion).

Once you’ve got your SkyMiles number and proof of both your Lufthansa status and recent activity, head to the Delta Status Match page. There, complete the online form, entering ‘Lufthansa’ in to the ‘Other Airline’ box and either ‘Senator’ or ‘HON Circle’ in the ‘Status On Other Airline Box’. Once you’ve done that, upload the supporting screenshots and hit ‘Submit’.

Delta state that it can take up to 3 weeks for a status match to be confirmed.
