Status Matching Alaska Mileage Plan To Virgin Flying Club

Alaska Mileage Plan MVP Gold 75K or MVP Gold 100K members can match straight to top tier Virgin Flying Club Gold status. Similarly, Alaska MVP Gold members can match to middle tier Virgin Silver. Before delving into the process of matching, here’s an outline of how the match will work.

Virgin are slightly different from other airlines in that in order to status match, you’ll need to have an upcoming ‘revenue flight’ booked on top of your elite status with Alaska. A ‘revenue flight’ simply means a paid-for, non-rewards flight. There’s an additional minimum cabin class requirement for that booking if you’re matching to Gold instead of Silver:

  • Matching To Virgin Gold - Need Upcoming Virgin Atlantic Booking in Premium Economy or Upper Class

  • Matching To Virgin Silver - Need Upcoming Virgin Atlantic Booking In Any Cabin Class

When matched, your new Virgin Gold or Silver status will be valid for 12 months (from date of match). Your elite status will expire after those 12 months unless you’ve met the standard Virgin Silver or Gold Tier Points requirements.

Bear in mind that Virgin also have the right to revoke your status match at any point. It’s likely that they’re stipulating this in order to prevent people booking flights, matching and then cancelling.

How To Complete The Status Match

The first step is to sign up to Virgin Flying Club if you aren’t already a member. In this case, it’s likely you are already a member as you need to have that upcoming Virgin Atlantic flight booking before you can match.

Once you’ve signed up, login to Virgin Flying Club and write down your Virgin Flying Club number. Then, head to ‘My Flights’ and screenshot your upcoming Virgin Atlantic Booking (making sure the booking reference is visible).

Once you’ve done that, login to Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan, head to ‘Overview and Elite Status’ and click on ‘Print Membership Card’. You don’t need to actually print your card. Instead, just take a screenshot of your card as evidence of your Alaska Mileage Plan MVP Gold, MVP Gold 75K or MVP Gold 100K status.

Once you’ve got proof of your upcoming Virgin flight, Alaska status and Virgin Flying Club number, head to the Virgin Status Match page. Scroll down and you’ll see the form that you need to fill in.

Fill in your details and then, in the ‘Other Airline Loyalty Programme’ section, select ‘Alaska - MVP’ and either MVP Gold or MVP Gold 75K from the dropdown menus. If you’re an Alaska MVP Gold 100K member, just select ‘MVP Gold 75K’.

Attach proof of your upcoming Virgin Atlantic flight and Alaska Mileage Plan status as evidence and hit ‘Send’.

Virgin officially state that it can take up to 30 days to match so bear that in mind. However, most get confirmation of their match within a few days. As soon as you’ve been upgraded to Virgin Silver or Virgin Gold, you’ll have that matched status for 12 months.
