Status Matching Air Canada To Alaska Airlines

The Alaska status you can match to depends on your Air Canada status:

  • Air Canada Altitude 25K & 35K members can match to Alaska MVP

  • Air Canada Altitude 50K members can match to Alaska MVP Gold

  • Air Canada Altitude 75K & 100K members can match to Alaska MVP Gold 75K

To match, you’ll first need an Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan number to complete the status match. So, you’re going to need to sign up to Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan if you haven’t already. This will only take a few minutes. Once a member, note down your Alaska Mileage Plan number.

Once you’ve got an Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan account, head to Air Canada’s website and view your Aeroplan account. You’ll need a screenshot of your Aeroplan status as proof to complete the match. Make sure the image includes your first name, last name and status. Then take a screenshot showing either your Air Canada year-to-date miles flown or miles flown in the year prior to earning your Air Canada elite status.

Alaska Airlines will only match your Air Canada status if you’ve earned it the usual way. They won’t match if you achieved Aeroplan status via a credit card promo or similar.

You’ve now got all you need to complete the Air Canada to Alaska Airlines status match. Before you do, bear in mind that Alaska Airlines will only status match once per account and this is a status match challenge. You’ll only retain the matched Air Alaska status for 90 days unless you earn a minimum number of miles in that 90 day window.

  • Retain MVP Status - Fly 5,000 Miles on Alaska in 90 Days

  • Retain MVP Gold Status - Fly 10,000 Miles on Alaska in 90 Days

  • Retain MVP Gold 75K Status - Fly 20,000 Miles on Alaska in 90 Days

Once you hit the minimum number of miles to extend you status, you’ll keep your status until:

  • End of Current Calendar Year - If you started the Status Match Challenge before the end of June

  • End of Next Calendar Year - If you started the Status Match Challenge between July and the end of December

Once you’re happy to status match, you can head to the Alaska Airlines Status Match page and complete the status match form. Select your ‘Current Frequent Flyer Program’ (ie. Air Canada Altitude 75K), enter your Alaska Mileage Plan number and Alaska Airlines email. Then, upload the screenshots from your Air Canada account.

Officially, Alaska Airlines ask you to wait 4 weeks for status match approval but most people hear back within a few days. I’d suggest contacting Alaska Airlines if you’re still waiting after 3 or 4 days, especially if you're waiting for the status to match before you book with Alaska Airlines.
