Status Matching Air Canada To Delta SkyMiles

Delta offer an immediate 3 month status match (beginning 24 hours after your match is confirmed) which can be extended past 3 months by meeting their status match challenge. Air Canada 75K and 100K members can be matched to Delta SkyMiles Platinum Medallion. Similarly, 50K members match to SkyMiles Gold and 25K members match to SkyMiles Silver.

To be eligible, you can’t have received a Delta status match in the past 3 years and you can’t have been given free Delta status in the past 3 years (unless free with Million Miler status).

To extend your status past the 1st 3 months, you’ll have to meet Delta’s Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) or Medallion Qualifying Segments (MQSs). US-based members also have to meet minimum spend requirements called Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs) but those are waived if you spend $25,000 on a qualifying Delta American Express Card.

MQMs, MQSs and MQDs can be earned on Delta, Delta Connection and Delta Partner-operated flights. Here are the requirements you’ll need to get each matched tier extended.

  • Silver Extension - 6,250 MQMs OR 8 MQSs AND $750 MQDs

  • Gold Extension - 12,500 MQMs OR 15 MQSs AND $1,500 MQDs

  • Platinum Extension - 18,750 MQMs OR 25 MQSs AND $2,250 MQDs

You’re capped at extending your SkyMiles tier to the tier you’re matched to, or lower. So, whilst you could match to Gold but become a Silver member after 3 months, you couldn’t become a Platinum member by meeting Platinum extension requirements.

An important note about the MQD waiver is that the $25,000 Delta Amex spend must be met between January 1st and the end of the 3 month challenge window. If your challenge window falls between 2 calendar years, you’d have to meet the MQD waiver either in year 1 or 2, before the match period ends.

How To Complete The Status Match

First of all, sign up to Delta Skymiles if you haven’t already. You need to sign up before you status match from Air Canada as you’ll need a Delta SkyMiles number. Once you’ve got an account write down your Delta SkyMiles number.

Once you’re a Delta SkyMiles member, head to Air Canada Aeroplan and sign in. Here, you’ll need to take 2 screenshots from your Aeroplan account. First, screenshot your main account page that shows your name, digital Aeroplan card and status.

Second, screenshot your ‘Activity’ page that proves that you earned your Aeroplan status. Delta won’t match your status if you earned your Air Canada status through a free promotion.

Now you’ve got all you need to complete the match, head to Delta’s Status Match page and complete the online form. Enter ‘Air Canada’, along with your Aeroplan status (eg. ‘Altitude 75K’) in the appropriate boxes. Then upload the 2 screenshots showing proof of your Aeroplan status and the Air Canada flights that earned you that status and hit ‘Submit’.

Delta say it can take up to 3 weeks to approve the match so bear that in mind if you want to get your Delta status before you make a booking.
