United Airlines MileagePlus Premier Platinum and Premier 1K members can status match to Delta SkyMiles Platinum Medallion. Similarly, United Premier Gold members can match to SkyMiles Gold. In this guide, I’ll break down the details, the matching process and the benefits you’ll get with Delta.

Status Matching United To Delta SkyMiles

If you’re a United MileagePlus Premier Platinum or Premier 1K member, you can status match to Delta SkyMiles Platinum Medallion. Alternatively, if you’re a United Premier Gold member, you can match to SkyMiles Gold. You’re only eligible for this match if you haven’t matched or been given free Delta status in the past 3 years (unless it was free with Million Miler status).

Delta will initially match your status for 3 months. This can be extended by meeting Delta’s status match challenge. You’ll have those 3 months to hit a minimum number of Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) or Medallion Qualifying Segments (MQSs). US-based members also have to spend a *minimum number of Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs).

You can earn MQMs, MQSs and MQDs on Delta, Delta Connection and Delta Partner-operated flights. Below are the minimum numbers required to extend your status. Importantly, whilst you can move down a tier after the 3 month window if you only meet those requirements, you can’t increase your tier by meeting higher tier requirements.

• Silver Extension - 6,250 MQMs OR 8 MQSs AND $750 MQDs

• Gold Extension - 12,500 MQMs OR 15 MQSs AND $1,500 MQDs

• Platinum Extension - 18,750 MQMs OR 25 MQSs AND $2,250 MQDs

*The MQD requirement is waived if you spend $25,000 in one year on a qualifying Delta American Express Card. Importantly, this must be met in one calendar year. So, if your 3 month challenge window falls between 2 calendar years, you’d have to hit the $25,000 spend in year 1 or year 2 (before the match window ends).

The Status Match Process

First, you’ll need a Delta SkyMiles number. For that, you’ll need to join Delta SkyMiles if you haven’t already. Once you’ve got a SkyMiles account, write down your SkyMiles number.

Next, login to United MileagePlus, view ‘MileagePlus’ in the menu and go to ‘Status Tracker’. Once here, you’ll need to take 2 screenshots. First, screenshot your United Status (make sure your name is visible). Then, scroll down and take a 2nd screenshot of your recent United MileagePlus activity. You need this to prove you earned your United status, rather than getting it through a credit card or similar promo.

Now, head to Delta’s Status Match page and complete the form. Enter ‘United’ in the ‘Other Airline’ box and your United Status in the ‘Status On Other Airline’ box. Fill in the rest of the info, including SkyMiles number, upload the screenshots showing proof of United status and activity and hit ‘Submit’.

Delta can take up to 3 weeks to approve the match so take that delay into account if you’re waiting to make a Delta booking.
