How To Status Match United To Virgin Flying Club

Status Matching United To Virgin Flying Club
United Airlines MileagePlus members can status match to Virgin Flying Club. United Premier 1K members can match to Virgin Gold, Virgin’s top tier, and United Premier Platinum members can match to Virgin Silver, Virgin’s middle tier. Here’s how the Virgin status match works.
Unlike other airline status matches, Virgin will only match your United status if you’ve also got an upcoming ‘revenue flight’ booked with Virgin Atlantic. A ‘revenue flight’ is a paid-for, non-reward flight. The booking needs to meet a minimum cabin class if you’re matching to Virgin Gold:
To Match To Virgin Gold - Must Have Upcoming Virgin Atlantic Booking in Premium Economy or Upper Class
To Match To Virgin Silver - Must Have Upcoming Virgin Atlantic Booking In Any Cabin Class
Virgin do have the right to revoke your status match. This is likely to prevent people booking flights, matching and then cancelling.
The Virgin Silver or Gold status match will be valid for 12 months from the date your Virgin account is upgraded. After those 12 months, your elite Virgin status will expire unless you’ve met the usual Silver or Gold Tier Point requirements.
How To Complete The Status Match
First, make sure you’ve signed up to Virgin Flying Club. It’s likely you’re already a member since you’ll need to have that upcoming Virgin Atlantic booking (mentioned above) to complete the match.
Once a member, login to your Virgin account and note down your Virgin Flying Club number. Then, go to ‘My Flights’ and take a screenshot of your upcoming Virgin Atlantic booking (make sure the booking reference is visible).
You’ll need both of these to complete the status match.
Next, login to your United MileagePlus account, click on ‘MileagePlus’ and then ‘Status Tracker’. Once you’re on this page, screenshot your United Status (making sure your name is visible). That’s all you’ll need from your United account.
Now you’ve got all you need to complete the United-Virgin status match, head to the Virgin Status Match page and scroll down until you see the online status match form that you need to complete.
Fill in your details, including your Virgin Atlantic Flying Club number and under ‘Name Of Other Airline Programme’, select ‘United Airlines - Mileage Plus’. Then, under ‘Tier At Other Airline Programme’, select ‘Premier Platinum’ or ‘Premier 1K’ depending on your United status.
Attach both the screenshot of your United status and the screenshot of your upcoming Virgin Atlantic flight, tick the required box and click ‘Send’.
Officially, Virgin state that the status match can take up to 30 days. However, most people do hear back within a few days. Once upgraded, your status match lasts for 12 months.
